Magnificent Tribute to Tommy Horton MBE

On Monday 4th August 2008 a wonderful Pro/Celebrity-Amateur Golf Day took place in honour of golfing legend Tommy Horton MBE. This wonderful day of golfing fun and celebrations was hosted by Ryder Cup hero Tony Jacklin CBE and the eminent Ryder Cup itself was also on hand which created immense hype in the build up to Valhalla.

Professional golfers and celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment arrived at Nailcote Hall to support Tommy. Famous faces who enjoyed a wonderful day of Par 3 golf in the sun included Peter Schemichel, Clive Abbot, Willie Thorne, Tony Currie, Zinzan Brooke, Lee Sharpe, Frank Worthington, William Roache, and Peter Shilton..to name just a few.

Both Tommy and Tony participated in this fantastic golf day with amateur golfers and spectators thoroughly enjoying watching these 2 stars in action!

The event was concluded with a sensational Gala Dinner hosted by Tony Jacklin in honour of his Ryder Cup and Seniors Tour colleague Tommy Horton. Tony brought the Ryder Cup to the evening dinner, with both personalities thoroughly entertaining the audience with stories surrounding their renowned careers are professional golfers.

The winning celebrity on the day was Aston Villa star Gary Shaw who, with a score of 2 under par, picked up the Arnold Palmer bronze trophy. Tommy himself was also presented with a Ben Hogan bronze trophy in recognition of his amazing career
